Gloria Nichols, Director, is a highly experienced conference interpreter, Federal  Court Certified interpreter, ATA-Certified translator, and a member of ATA and NAJIT. Gloria was vice-president of the former ATA Florida Chapter (2002-03). She served on the Founding Board as Chair of the Bylaws Committee as well as the Professional Development Committee, and  will continue in these positions as an elected Director.

James Nolan, Director. A consulting linguist and legal writer, has served as Deputy Director of the Interpretation, Meetings and Publishing Division of the United Nations, Head of Linguistic and Conference Services of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, Chief of the UN Verbatim Reporting Service, UN Senior Interpreter, and Linguist/Legal Writer with The Garden City Group. James’s commitment to ATIF’s goals is well known: he was one of our first presenters and also ran for president in our first election. He joins ATIF’s Board as a Director ratifying that commitment.

Emmy Prieto, Director, has been an ATA member since 1995, served on the former ATA Florida Chapter board as secretary (1998-99), and has experience as both translator and interpreter. Emmy was an English major at the University of Puerto Rico, obtained her Translation and Interpretation Studies Award from MDCC, and holds certificates in Translation Studies, and Legal Translation and Court Interpreting from FIU. She currently works as a Senior Technical Writer and freelances as a translator. Emmy has served on ATIF’s Founding Board and looks forward to continuing her work supporting ATIF’s goals.


ATIF’s First Elected Board of Directors members who served the 2011-2013 term are:

Giovanna Lester, President, has worked in the T&I field since 1980. She was president of ATA’s Florida Chapter (June 2002-December 2003), Assistant Administrator (2003-2005) and later Administrator (2005-2007) of ATA’s Interpreters Division. She is ATA-certified for Portuguese into English translations and an international conference interpreter. Gio has presented various times for FLATA, ATA and the ATA’s Portuguese Language and Interpreters Divisions. She also has articles published in the ATA Chronicle, FLATAFlash (defunct), the Interpreters Voice, PLData and NAJIT’s Protheus. Currently she is editor of Speaking Out!

Olga Santiago, Vice-president and Membership Chair. She is from the Ukraine and her fascination with languages started at the crib, having been born into a bilingual Russian/German household. She holds two Bachelor’s Degrees—Spanish and French, and is working on her translator and interpreter certificates at Florida International University. Olga’s main goal as is to help other T&I colleagues meet their professional needs and achieve their goals.

Deborah Spector, Treasurer, brings more than 30 years of professional experience to the ATIF Board of Directors, as editor, translator and interpreter in the US, Cuba and Mexico. Debby is a member of ATA and NAJIT, as well as a state-certified Spanish interpreter. She believes that unity, interaction and cooperation among translators and interpreters are key to to advocating for our profession and promoting quality services in our fields.

Linda Dunlap, Secretary, has served on other boards and brings her experience to strengthen ATIF’s. Linda holds an MA in Spanish from NYU, a Translation and Interpretation Certificate from Miami-Dade College, a Diploma de Traductor from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and is an Adjunct Faculty member at Miami-Dade College InterAmerican Campus.

Antonella Minervino, Director, an experienced PR and Marketing professional hs graduated form Miami-Dade College Translation and Interpreting Program. She has been a member of ATIF since 2010 and sees her position as Director as a tool to exert influence in the direction our professions take – and ATIF’s principles go hand in hand with that goal.
