In other words, we should not need to be Joyce-like to be Joyceans, or to read his difficult books with pleasure. More importantly, we should not need to be Joyce-like to connect with all speakers and writers everywhere in the world, or to harness their news, their collective intelligence, and their wisdom currently congealed and concealed in their languages.
