Applicant must be a professional translator or interpreter (T&I); Florida residency required. Membership will be recorded at the Associate level until all required supporting documentation or information is received by ATIF’s Membership Chair. Criteria for acceptance:
Open to experienced translators and interpreters or T&I scholars, who abide by ATIF’s Bylaws and who possess at least one of the following reputable professional credentials:
I. Bachelor’s or higher academic degree or certificate relevant to the T&I profession from one or more of the world’s accredited universities/colleges;
II. ATA Certified or Active member;
III. State Court Certified Interpreter;
IV. US Federal Court Certified Interpreter or NAJIT certification;
V. Membership in a member organization of FIT (The Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs);
VI. Active member of AICC (The International Association of Conference Interpreters) or TAALS (The American Association of Language Specialists);
For I-VI above:Verifiable proof of T&I credentials is required, such as copies of the certifications, diplomas, memberships, and/or degrees, or presence in the on-line directories of the above recognized organizations.
VII. Documented relevant professional T&I experience of three (3) or more years. Supporting evidence of a T&I professional activity is required: either a paystub from a T&I agency, or 1099s for T&I work, and three (3) letters of recommendation from employer(s) /supervisor(s) or repeat client(s).
VIII. Documented evidence of at least three years’ work for scholars professionally engaged in work closely related to translation and/or interpretation. Supporting evidence may include either of the following: teaching appointment letters and/or terminology/lexicography research studies; T&I related books and other relevant publications by the applicant.
IX. RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) Certificate.
All foreign documents have to be accompanied by certified translation in English. Active membership shall be reviewed and approved by the ATIF Membership Committee.
ATIF membership follows the calendar year and run from January 1st through December 31st every year. Our renewal period is from December through January.
