The Translation and Interpretation Studies program at Miami College InterAmerican Campus would like to invite you to a one day workshop on simultaneous interpreting. This course is approved by the Court Interpreters Certification and Regulation Program (CICRP) for a total of 6.6 CIE credits. The Continuing Educational Activity Approval (CEAA) number is 15-0101. It will be conducted in our new Interpretation Lab (Room 1130) and is limited to 25 participants.
Course Objective: This one day workshop focuses on the development of conference/simultaneous interpretation skills for Spanish interpreters. Attendees will revisit the concept of simultaneous interpretation as a process and will practice some of the skills and strategies needed for a successful interpreting performance. Emphasis will be placed on the development of metacognitive techniques that allow interpreters to identify those areas in which they need improvement.
The workshop will cover the following topics:
Instructor: Ricardo Bardo-Portilla, Ph.D. , State and Federally Certified Court Interpreter and Translator
Dr. Bardo-Portilla is currently the director of the Translation and Interpretation Studies Program at Miami Dade College in Florida. He has also worked as a conference interpreter in many international gatherings in the U.S. and abroad. He taught translation and interpretation at University of Havana, Cuba, and the Universidad Autonoma de Baja California, Mexico. He has also taught Spanish at Dartmouth College and Florida State University.
