“Technology will not replace interpreters. Interpreters will be replaced by technology savvy interpreters.” That rings so true. And once you visit all the display stands, talk with all the technology vendors and learn about not only what is here and now available, but what they have in store for us… It is a jaw-dropping moment.
How about a 10″ touch-screen embedded in the interpreter’s console, with Excel, PPT, MS Word capability so you don’t miss any details of the presentation AND also internet access, so you can research terminology? Or special buttons that allow you to reach the tech guys without having to leave the booth? Or a sound signal to notify blind interpreters that they are on?
It is a lot to take on and the best part is that these companies are willing to listen to us and meet our needs.
Day two starts today and I can hardly wait.
