The Heat is ON!

This second half of 2015 promises to be full of activities. Vacation time is coming to an end, and we are planning a busy August for all. ATIF has heard positive feedback from the videos posted on our YouTube channel, and that got us thinking. ATIF is going to produce a weekly, language-neutral series of presentations focused on beginners and place it online. That will be a free treat in August, then we will close the month with a presentation by Armando Ezquerra Hasbun who is a lecturer and has presented many times at ATA, NAJIT and other professional conferences. Drawing from his experience as a federally certified interpreter, ATA certified translator, Bridging the Gap trainer, conference interpreter, language consultant, and adjunct interpreting professor at La Salle University, Pensylvania/PA, Armando promises us a real treat.

And let’s give July a special closing. Allan Tépper, author of many technical articles and international speaker, interviewed ATIF’s President, Gio Lester, on a special edition of his successful podcast CapicúaFM. It is special because, first, it marks a new alliance and service for ATIF members, and second, Gio is trying to speak Spanish. Read more below about the CapicúaFM-ATIF alliance, and then click on the link to hear the interview.

August is also the month when we will start our election process. Think about what direction you would like to see ATIF take. Who do you think can take us there? YOU? It is nomination time! We count on you to identify ATIF’s 2016 Board of Directors. The election process will continue in September. Candidates’ statements will go out to  the membership, and members have 20 days to decide whom they want to lead ATIF. Later that month, Andres Messulam brings us one of his information-laden workshops. Dianna McCrary has been working hard with Andres to schedule a proper time. Be on the lookout for more news on this front.
October will be a busy time for ATIF. We start the month with our General Membership Meeting on October 3; the ballots that will go out in September will be collected and counted on October 19, and the results of the election will be in on the 23rd, just in time for the ATA Conference. This will be the first ATIF Board to be announced at the Conference!

CapicuaFM
ATIF is pleased to announce our new alliance with CapicúaFM for co-promotion. Produced in South Florida, CapicúaFM covers little known truths about Castilian (castellano), the most widely used Spanish language, its culture, music, food, and even palindromes. Its creator, director, and main host is the multi-title author, tech journalist and audio/video specialist Allan Tépper, who is a language activist and certified translator originally from Connecticut, US. CapicúaFM recently celebrated its first anniversary and now has over 50,000 listeners in over 125 countries, according to Podtrac, Inc., the leader in independent measurement for premium online shows and podcasts.
As part of this new alliance, CapicúaFM will promote ATIF in its program and website, and ATIF will reciprocate by doing the same by promoting CapicúaFM in our activities and website. We encourage ATIF members to subscribe to CapicúaFM free on their mobile phone, tablet, or modern auto radio with Android Auto or Apple’s CarPlay, by following the instructions on CapicúaFM.com.
In CapicúaFM Episode 7, ATIF’s President Gio Lester converses with Allan Tépper about translating and interpreting.
